Raise the roof for Year of Young People 2018 (YoYP 2018)!

Year of Young People 2018 (YoYP 2018) is just around the corner and we can’t wait to get started on what is going to be an amazing year.

Can’t wait for 2018? Here are six ways you can support our cause:

  • Throwback to your youth

Everyone loves a trip down memory lane and on Thursday 16th November we hope you can join in a special #ThrowbackThursday to mark #YOYP2018. Take part in our When I was young(er) (because everyone is young at heart!) throwback on social media and let’s see how being young has changed over time.

We’ve created a ‘When I was young(er)’ that you can and print out to share your memories. Get snapped with your message and make sure to tag @YOYP2018 and use the hashtag #YOYP2018 so we can share your messages far and wide! Download here

  • Join our Thunderclap

Take part in our first Thunderclap and help tell Scotland that Year of Young People 2018 is here! All you have to do is sign up with your social media accounts and your message will automatically be posted on Friday 17th November, so you can sit back, have a cuppa and watch the good news spread.

  • Take part in an event

Young people and our partners EventScotland and VisitScotland have designed an exciting events programme for all ages to enjoy. From Shetland to Dumfries and Galloway, nearly 40 events will take place right across the country. Highlights include, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, Scotland’s first youth TedXYouth@Glasgow and the country’s largest youth music festival. Find out more at VisitScotland and EventScotland’s website

Show the world that your youth group, school or organisation is a champion of young people! Our Supporters’ logo is free to use across your materials. For example, you can use it in email signatures, marketing materials, reports, or you could even bake branded cookies!

  • Challenge the norms and get young people involved

Getting young people involved is at the heart of what YOYP 2018 is all about. One of our main aims is to create exciting new opportunities for them to shine, not only locally, but nationally and globally too! By giving young people the chance to influence the decisions that affect their lives, we believe that we can create a better Scotland for everyone. If you are a business owner, or are interested in getting young people involved in the planning of your work, then download our Co-design blueprint here

  • Take on stereotypes

One of the biggest obstacles that we’re looking to overcome throughout YOYP 2018 is negative stereotypes of young people. A great way to do this is to talk about the amazing things that young people are doing every day that can sometimes go unnoticed. We believe that your positive messages can showcase the things young people do and turn the tide of negative stereotypes. Share your stories via social media using #YOYP2018 and let’s get young people’s success trending!
