Volunteer Befrienders Wanted – DG8

Food Train Friends are extending their befriending services for older people aged 65+ in Dumfries and Galloway this year following a recent award from Big Lottery, targeting the rural DG8 Area. Newly appointed Development Officer Karen Barbour will take responsibility for developing the service in this area and is currently seeking suitable volunteer befrienders to help with our Award-Winning Befriending Service. We offer one-to-one visits, group activities, and telephone befriending.

Loneliness is a massive issue later in life, particularly in rural communities. Befriending can vastly improve the quality of life for an older person and increase their links to the outside world. It’s also an opportunity to meet new people, develop skills and have fun. Support and training provided, out-of-pocket expenses paid. PVG required.

Karen is based at 6 Queen Street Newton Stewart and can be contacted on 01671 401346 or by email website
