Lead Organisation for Canada: Volunteer Canada
Volunteer Canada's mission is to advance volunteerism to grow connection, community, and belonging. Since 1977, we have served as the national voice and leadership body for volunteerism, and are a registered charity with over 1,100 organizational members.
We are building Canada's intergenerational volunteering field through national convenings, practitioner training programs, research initiatives, and quality standards development. We work with diverse partners to reduce ageism and social isolation while positioning intergenerational connection as essential infrastructure for resilient communities. Through strategic collaboration and field-building, we're cultivating a nationally coordinated and sustainable intergenerational movement in Canada.
Encouraging Canadian participation in GIW2026:
Intergenerational connection strengthens our communities and breaks down the barriers of ageism and isolation. This Global Intergenerational Week—during the International Year of Volunteers—we invite organizations, community groups, and individuals across Canada to bring generations together through meaningful activities. Whether hosting a community event, launching an intergenerational program, or creating opportunities for younger and older people to connect and collaborate through volunteering—every action matters.
Each interaction strengthens understanding, transfers knowledge, and creates belonging. Join us in celebrating the power of intergenerational connection and help build a more inclusive, resilient Canada where people of all ages thrive together!
