Research Network - Primary School Intergenerational Research

Thursday 12th September 2024, 1:30pm - 2:30pm
online zoom

We are delighted to host this research that has investigated how participating in a primary school-based intergenerational activity can benefit older adults’ health outcomes. During their participation, older adult volunteers spent 8 hours per week supporting young pupils as they developed their literacy and numeracy.

Preliminary findings from their ‘Generation for Generation’ programme showed that participation has good potential to benefit a number of aspects of older adults’ health.

The Researchers:

Professor Louise Nicholls (University of Strathclyde) and Professor Alan Gow (Heriot-Watt University) are psychologists leading a variety of research projects on thinking and memory skills. They are particularly interested in finding out how we can maintain and even improve these skills as we age.
