Intergenerational Innovation and Service Design Research online

Wednesday 31st May 2023, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Online

We are delighted to have two students from Glasgow School of Art MDes Innovation and Service Design presenting their research. Ebby Lai and Tzu Tuan Chao will talk will share their research and experiences at this session.

They explain “Our project aims to build new relationships and better connections between generations, with a focus on retired individuals and young people starting their first job or fresh out of college. Our primary and secondary research has shown that transitioning can cause stress, anxiety, and negative emotions due to uncertainty and unforeseeable futures, especially during unexpected crises such as COVID-19.

By facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences, both generations can learn from each other and transform their knowledge into something new and valuable to shape their own future. The intended outcome is for both generations to co-design and redefine their identities to align with a multicultural and pluralistic society while creating new opportunities for collaboration and innovation. For example, retired individuals can find a sense of purpose and direction for their second life by offering guidance and support for younger generations and learning new modern skill sets from Gen Z. Ultimately, this intergenerational design has the potential to break down stereotypes and create a new hybrid generation that benefits from the knowledge and experiences of both the young and the old.”
