The How and Why of Intergenerational Volunteering...

Volunteering is a key element in addressing one of the biggest challenges for intergenerational projects: sustainability and longevity. By alleviating issues such as lack of capacity and manpower, we can reduce the number of sessions from being cancelled, help staff to feel less overwhelmed and contribute to the adult to child number ratios required.

Volunteers in existing projects can also greatly benefit from working alongside other volunteers from a different generation too. There are so many additional benefits which at the moment are not being recognised.

Join our panel of experts for an engaging session on the significance of volunteering to support the building and nurturing of intergenerational relationships between younger and older generations.

  • Volunteer Scotland will provide an overview of the volunteering landscape across the country, sharing participation statistics and identifying areas for improvement.
  • GWT will discuss the challenges of sustaining intergenerational projects and highlight innovative volunteering roles.
  • CVS Falkirk will offer tips on developing and growing your own volunteering opportunities.

Join us to discuss the challenges of volunteering, explore solutions, and share your thoughts on what would inspire you to take up volunteering.

Presenters: Alison Clyde, CEO (GWT), Margaret Starkie, Partnership and Communications Manager (Volunteer Scotland), Beth Cowen, Volunteering & Participation Officer (CVS Falkirk) and one of the Intergenerational Development Officers from the lottery funded Creating Intergenerational Communities team.

Quotes shared by intergenerational practitioners:

“Volunteers have been instrumental in making our workshops successful, bringing extra energy and valuable support to foster intergenerational conversations and sharing during our sessions.”

“We have volunteer facilitators from the wider community who bring specific expertise, such as an amateur astronomer, ballet professional, and poet.”
