East Lothian & Midlothian

Welcome to the East Lothian & Midlothian Network

Springing into springtime on the back of very busy winter months which included the AGM, wonderful workshops and network meetings, a fantastic GWT Conference week, presentation of Excellence Awards and Recognition Awards AND the amazing National Intergenerational Week, is a joy.
GWT networks have been busy sharing news of intergenerational projects, useful and interesting resources and support for each other, as we all experienced a second lockdown. The website has been refreshed (so please enjoy a wander through the different pages) and the ‘small but perfectly formed’ GWT team have been hard at work behind the scenes too creating a Thematic Network Meetings calendar for the year ahead. There’s a constant feeling of optimism and a true faith in the amazing people in Scotland who live and breathe intergenerational and connected ways of working and living. Follow the link here:

“Don’t hide your light under a bushell” is Loreen’s message. If you are working on something that is, or feels like it could become, truly intergenerational – please do get in touch and share it. The more we raise awareness and understanding of intergenerational work, the more we inspire – you are always welcome to email loreen@generationsworkingtogether.org to share your thoughts and experiences or knowledge of something that is happening. Stay in touch and stay involved!

At this year’s conference, Dunbar Grammar School received a Highly Commended award for their intergenerational development work over pandemic times, with adaptation of Dunbar Dinners and the commencement of a richly rewarding Penpal project. (Especial mention to Ryan and Lydia who inspired so many). Category – Innovation in the Communityhuge congratulations to all involved!
Recognising and growing the strong tradition of wonderful intergenerational work in East and Midlothian – with Newbyres Nursery, First Step Community Project, Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School, Dunbar Grammar School, Volunteer Centre Midlothian, Art Point Scotland, to name but a few, is a real pleasure! (Our banner picture notes award presented to Dunbar Fashion School for winning one of Generations Working Together’s Awards for their contribution to reducing loneliness and isolation (2019).
