International Collaborations

UK Visit
Dr Rosamund Harrington travelled to the UK in the last week of May 2023 and visited international examples of intergenerational programs and facilities. Generations Working Together contacted some organisations in Scotland who fitted with the work that she had an interest in, with particular focus in intergenerational housing, places and spaces. Whilst in the UK she made site visits to the following:

*Judith Ish-Horowicz, MBE, Co-Founder and Director, and participants in the baby and toddlers IGP- Apples and Honey Nightingale CIC

*Susan Oliver (Head Teacher), Sara Lambard (Intergenerational Program Coordinator) and participants in the Intergenerational Gardening Program – Jedburgh Grammar Campus

*Roger Walpole (Transition Manager) – Heart of Newhaven Community

*Kayleigh MacDonald ECE Killin Nursery and participants in Killin Nursery IGP

*Marie Urquhart, Connect Project Officer, Inspiring Communities, and participants in Raploch Community Choir

*Staff and senior volunteers at Tomnah’a Market Garden, Comrie Croft to discuss considerations for intergenerational farming campus design.

Ros (as she liked to be named) visited our Lanarkshire Intergenerational Network at New Lanark College and shared information about the project as well as joining in the conversation on Intergenerational work in the community. Excellent links with organisations have been made and Ros will stay in touch working collaboratively and sharing Intergenerational best practice and ideas for working together. See below for a bit of background about Grandschools. We hope to be able to show you a film of the project at a later date. Here a copy of the presentation that Ros uses to explain the project.

Grandschools Project

The Grandschools Project explores integrated solutions for healthy intergenerational learning and living campuses across urban and regional Australia, with a specific focus on integrating senior living with collocated high school campuses. It is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).The GrandSchools project acts upon recommendations from the Inquiry into the Quality of Care and Residential Aged Care in Australia IQCRAC (2018) by developing an inter-generational model for senior living within school campuses in consultation with industry partners. The project differs from existing programs by establishing an economic policy-driven ‘shared campus facilities and services’ approach which is person-centred, health focused and socially inclusive. The model intends to be translatable across diverse Australian contexts, from urban realms where land is limited, and regionally, where closer engagement between generations will maintain social networks.
