Intergenerational living in Japanese Danchi

Through the programme you will find out about the histroy of the Danchi housing complexes and what is being done around the country to revitalise local Danchis.

The Intergenrational initiative appears towards the end of the programme, looking at the Takeyama Danchi in Yokohama where university students are living in the upper floors, where there are no elevators.  The students also hold exercise classes, grow and cook lunches in communal gathering areas with the older residents. It is recognised that through the initiative students are developing their social skills and older residents are learning new skills and interacting with the young people.   View the programme here.
