School in Drumchapel goes intergenerational

We are working in partnership with St Clare’s in Drumchapel, Glasgow. The partnership looks to support the school to set up a range of intergenerational activities and projects initially aimed to develop literacy and numeracy skills connecting pupils with older people from the surrounding local community.

Our Intergenerational Development Officer will work closely with the school and the wider community recruiting and training older people to take part in the project. The primary goal is developing literacy and numeracy skills but other intergenerational projects will be considered and developed which may build confidence and self esteem and help develop leadership and communication skills. The programme will have a much wider reach and will benefit all who are involved.

Volunteers will be involved in a wide range of activities throughout the school year in anything from storytelling, to paired reading, writing and reading, one to one and support for small groups. Other activities may include; garden projects, events, recycling. How the project evolves will be down to what people get involved in. The younger and older people coming together and taking part in intergenerational activities through learning and play will be the exciting part of the project and we aim to keep you informed of its progress. Look out for the leaflets that we will be circulating in the community.
