Welcome to the Generations Working Together's June Newsletter
With the official start of Summer Time in full swing and warmer days ahead, (we hope!) here is everything you need to know from our team this June.
We are thrilled to announce the Excellence Awards 2026 is now open for applications. The awards will celebrate the diversity of intergenerational work, the communities it reaches and the impact it has on people's lives. We would like to see applications from a wide range of organisaitons from grassroot initiatives, community groups, to large organisations and established networks. Share your story and be a part of the celebration.
This year there are 7 award categories:
- Global categories (x3) – open to projects worldwide
- Scotland-based categories (x3) – celebrating local innovation and impact
- International network category (x1) – for organisations involved in the Creating Intergenerational Communities (CIC) Network
Find out more about the 7 categories here and submit your application. Before completing your application, attend the Top Tips for Applicants session on Wednesday 10th June to ensure you are getting at the right details into your form.
All the Winners will be revealed during a special awards celebration (Hootenanny) on the evening of Day 3 (Thursday 1st October) of the Global Intergenerational Congress, which will bring together attendees from around the world for an unforgettable evening of recognition, storytelling, and celebration. It's only 4 months until we host the Global Intergenerational Congress in Glasgow. (29 Sept to 1st Oct 2026).
The Congress Programme is taking shaping and will be launched later today, so keep an eye out for it on the Global Intergenerational Congress webpage, also whilst on the page check out our latest short film about the conference, created by our Official Media Partner, Pixel Theatre.

Our Voices Less Heard initiative, funded by the National Lottery Awards for All Scotland, will provide 40 fully funded delegate places for third sector community practitioners and volunteers from all across Scotland to attend the Congress, plus it will give free access to our Creating Intergenerational Communities (CIC) training suite. Book on to the upcoming 3 hour, tutor led online Evaluating Intergenerational Projects and Programmes training session which is designed to help those involved in intergenerational work, to measure and evidence the impact of their approach upon participants, support staff and the wider community.
Join Lorraine, our Intergenerational Learning and Development Lead at our Members-only Intergenerational Drop-in clinic on Wednesday 3rd June where you can ask any questions you have on intergenrational practice/work.
Book a place for the upcoming online Education Network meeting on Wednesday 3rd June, where the focus will be on young people, the challenges they face as they leave education and prepare for the world of work and how involvement in intergenerational programmes can help to build resilience and confidence.
If you have completed the 1 day Intergenerational Training and the Evaluation Training session then why not complete the Quality Indicator Toolkit Training on Thursday 4rth June and become a part of the Creating Intergenerational Communities (CIC) programme.
Our 1 hour, free online Lunch and Learn session on Thursday 18th June is open to all, where you can find out how an intergenerational approach can be used in a targeted way across a range of different fields including education, youth work, adult social care, community development, housing, and public health.
