Creating Intergenerational Communities SROI

While the benefits of intergenerational practice are relatively well established in academic and practice literature, Creating Intergenerational Communities Pilot funded by the National Lottery Community Fund set out to improve quality and sustainability in intergenerational working and in doing so determine the social value of upskilling intergenerational practitioners across Scotland, Northern Ireland and England.

The scope of the evaluation looked at the outcomes for the pilot organisations, particularly around training and the increase quality provision able to be provided, it also looked at the impact to the projects and the legacy of provision where possible, as well as the outcomes for older people and young people taking part in the activity.

Looking at the contribution of the Creating Intergenerational Communities project, £3.7 million social value has been created through increased skills and knowledge across the sector in establishing and growing intergenerational practice, and through that, increased physical and mental health, increased wellbeing and improvements in school and in cognitive skills for young and older people.

= £6.97 for every £1 invested

This evaluation was conducted by Bean Research, a level three Social Value international practitioner and social impact specialist.

Further to the pilot GWT is offering practitioners an opportunity to undertake two days of training which gives access to our quality indicator toolkit and UK Community of Practice network. For further details check out CIC link above and look out for a new page coming soon in our training section.
