2:00pm Tuesday 17th May - 5:00pm Monday 11th July 2022
“I am so glad I came across this course! It has been so helpful and motivated me even more to persist and strive to bring the generations together.” (Student, IDIL 2, 2021)
This course is aimed at anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of intergenerational work, its purpose, impact and practical application to enable them to apply this within their own work.
The course will consist of three on-line modules taking approximately 75 hours to complete over 8 weeks starting on Tuesday 17th May and finishing on Monday 11th July 2022. Each student will receive support from an online tutor.
Cost – Member: £210 Non-Member £250
Please note: the course has had a slight change in title moving from the ‘International Diploma in Intergenerational Learning’ to the ‘International Certificate in Intergenerational Practice’ (ICIP). This is due to the course moving over from the University of Granada platform to sit within GWT’s new Moodle platform. The course however remains the exact same and will be accredited by the Continued Professional Development Standards Office (CPD) along with a certificate from GWT.
The course is open to all including: community workers, care home activity coordinators, nursery/playgroup staff, primary/secondary teachers, classroom assistants, community learning & development, social care professionals, social workers, sociologists, psychologists, leisure & physical activity professionals, employment advisors, doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, librarians and third sector professionals of all backgrounds and levels.
On completion of this online training course students will:
- Understand what we mean by intergenerational practice and projects and what they can achieve.
- Understand the ways in which intergenerational practice and projects are of relevance in different contexts and situations and why they are so important in today’s changing society.
- Understand how intergenerational practice and projects can contribute to more inclusive communities and workplaces.
- Understand and recognise the importance of monitoring and evaluating intergenerational projects.
- Understand some of the opportunities and issues, which can arise in monitoring and evaluating an intergenerational project.
The course is accredited by the CPD Standards Office who will provide 75 hours of CPD if successfully completed.
Our expert panel of tutors taking part in this next course will include:
- Professor Mariano Sanchez (University of Granada)

Hear what our previous students had to say:
“Very helpful, insightful and lots of useful reading and resources. Great support from tutors and good to engage with other students.”
“If I were to repeat the course, I would not worry so much about my answers as you were given the freedom to just answer. This, I like as it took into consideration the creative side of people and allowed for misunderstandings. The feedback was always constructive and anything you missed in any activities/assignments were simply explained in a lovely manner.”
“I have been really impressed by the resources pulled together to support learning on this course, both written and video. I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and have come to the end feeling more confident in my understanding of and ability to apply intergenerational principles and practice and to engage with others to design, develop and deliver concrete, ongoing intergenerational happenings.”
“I found the optional zoom live sessions really useful in helping to get to know the other participants and tutors, and as a result, I felt more confident in posting comments to the forum/course cafe.”
“The course cafe is great to hear from others and especially great to hear about other projects happening around the world. I found it very useful attending the other GWT virtual conversations and sessions held outside of the course.”
