What do we mean by The Global South?

We understand The Global South as a term that broadly comprises countries in the regions of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia (without Israel, Japan & South Korea), and Oceania (without Australia & New Zealand), according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and, likewise, the concept of (Global North and) Global South (or North-South divide in a global context) used to describe a grouping of countries along the lines of socio-economic and political characteristics.

How do we define Professional (in the Global South)?

Frontline practitioner or manager in an NGO or public sector body, teacher, researcher, academic.

How do we calculate your annual income?

Our membership fees, for organisations, are based on your organisation's most recent reported annual income figure (which includes restricted and unrestricted funds). We will use the latest figure you've given us. If you want to update us on anything, please get in touch - membership@gwt.scot
