Restarting intergenerational activities in care with Lorraine George

Thursday 11th March 2021, 10:00am - 11:00am
On Zoom (Sign in details will be sent before the event)

Lorraine George is a Childcare Development Worker based in Torbay Local Authority in Devon, England. She trains and support early years practitioners and also initiates and develops local projects for early years providers, linking them to other community partners. She also has experience in gaining funding from Trusts and Charities.

Lorraine has worked on the ‘Making Bridges with Music’ project, an intergenerational music and song writing programme. In 2017 she was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to research intergenerational co-located learning i.e. nurseries based within residential care homes in the US.

In 2019 in partnership with Warberries Care Home and the Early Years Advisory Team she helped secured funding to develop a co-located intergenerational space from which Childminders will be able to work every day. This was the first of its kind in the UK and in February 2021 the programme was awarded the 2020 Nursery World Inclusive Practice Award.

Lorraine currently works with Generations Working Together as a tutor on the International Diploma in Intergenerational Learning (IDIL) and has published a practitioner’s guide to intergenerational activities called ‘Growing Together ‘.

During this session, Lorraine we will explore what activities may look like as Covid-19 restrictions relax and what will need to be considered during this period of transition. How can we make the best use of this time to renew and rebuild intergenerational connections? Come along to hear about different activities and ask Lorraine George any questions that you may have.

This session is part of the National Intergenerational Week which takes place from the 8th – 14th of March 2021. Take part in the intergenerational week by using the hashtag #IntergenerationalWeek and by downloading our social media pack.
