Intergenerational Volunteers - Scottish Borders
We have an interesting opportunity for older volunteers, to join us in our project within Jedburgh Grammar Campus.
This lovely new cross campus school has children and young people, aged between 3 and 18 years. We are now recruiting volunteers to engage in a project developing around growing, gardening, food and cooking and recycling with clear links to climate action – both supporting and sharing in learning with pupils across the various age groups via online digital links if required, as well as in person as local authority guidance allows. Guidance and training will be provided.
A wonderful new polytunnel, funded by the Community Climate Asset Fund has been sited on the grounds to act as an outdoor classroom and area to engage in developing skills, learning and sharing knowledge. Some fruit trees have already been planted in the adjacant area also….it’s certainly true to say this project is setting down roots and starting to grow.
Through our activities and discussions, sharing ideas, we aim to connect younger and older people, improving the skills of the children and providing social opportunities for adults alongside learning from and with each other. This will build positive relationships and breakdown barriers around getting to know each other through enjoying the dynamics of older and younger generations together.
Our volunteers are fully supported by an Intergenerational Development Officer and all we ask is for a few hours in your week.
