Including grandparents in children's health promotion

Around 9 million grandparents look after grandchildren regularly within the UK, and 44% of children are looked after by their grandparents at least once per week. Grandparents can play a huge role in children’s lives, however, they are rarely the target of interventions to improve children’s long term health outcomes. This free workshop seeks to examine these issues further.

It will present findings from the Cancer Research UK funded Growing Grandchildren project which looked at the evidence in this area and spoke with parents and grandparents about their experiences. Workshop discussion will be around key stakeholders’ interactions with families around children’s health behaviours (eg diet, exercise, weight, tobacco), with small group discussion focusing on how we can incorporate grandparents more into health promotion.
